Equitable Development is
grounded in four guiding principles: integration of people
and place strategies; reduction of local and regional
disparities; promotion of "double bottom line" investments;
and inclusion of meaningful community voice, participation,
and leadership. The Louisiana Center for Equitable
Development (L-CED) at Southern University A&M College in
Baton Rouge, LA recognizes and seeks to advance these
principles within communities in Louisiana.
Vision
L-CED envisions itself as a statewide resource for
community-based equitable development across the state of
Louisiana. In the future, the success of L-CED will have a
broad impact on equitable development across the nation and
state. The L-CED can serve as a national model of how
partnerships between HBCUs, state agencies, and private
partners can jointly assist communities in attaining
equitable development. More importantly, this L-CED will
also encourage communities to connect with one another
thereby encouraging inter-community partnerships and
bolstering the theme of equitable development and
sustainable self-driven communities.
Mission
The mission of L-CED is to (a) foster and sustain the
equitable development and growth of Louisiana communities
via strategic programs, projects, and policy research that
target housing development, economic development, health
and wellness promotion, and education reform.
Objectives
(a) to create
an equitable community environment in which citizens are
informed, educated, supported, and empowered; and (b) to
engage residents in various phases of community development
and planning and thereby promote community-driven leadership
and economic development that will ultimately lead to a
sustainable environment.
